Ever Wonder Why it’s So Hard to Do Your Own Marketing?

You know I still ask myself this question! I mean I am a marketing expert so why is it such a drag to do my own marketing? I mean I love what I do, I adore my clients and give their accounts my all to try and help them hit their goals… So what’s going on here?

I’ll tell you, it honestly all comes down to mindset. For me I love my clients and I am so excited to work on their accounts and watch them grow that I give it my all. By the time I am ready to work on my own stuff I am out of creative juices!

Think about how many social media managers out there have small social accounts, we think wow how could they be any good at their job… Personally I think wow they probably put so much into their clients that they aren’t working on growing their own accounts. Because their mindset is all about client delivery and not so much about growing their own accounts. I am sure many of you can understand this feeling! (it’s what leads most entrepreneurs to hope on the income roller coaster, but that's another post for another day) But it all boils down to mindset!

So how do we overcome these mindset issues to help us continue to work on our own marketing and our own business? Let’s look at some of my favorite tips that keep me motivated and promoting my bada** biz!

Motivation:

Mindset, we hear about it all the time and damn can it be a b*tch! I used to think, I have better things to do with my time, like client work. But I quickly learned (the hard way) that this is not the kind of mindset I needed to have. So I started implementing some tricks to keep me motivated to work on my own stuff and try to keep my mind in a better place!

  • Play up-beat music while you work! If you love music the up-beat tunes will keep you jamming, Keep you motivated and I know they certainly get my mindset in a positive place to get that marketing work done.

  • Give yourself rewards! I know, I know many of us set up rewards when we hit big goals. But sometimes it's all about rewarding ourselves for the little tasks we hate doing that add up to hitting that big goal. We have to honor those little tasks if we want to stay motivated.

  • Do what feels in alignment! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten stalled because I was working on things that just felt out of alignment. When you're not feeling in alignment it's hard to keep that positive mindset and get that work done. Don’t be afraid to pivot when you need to, to help you hit those goals and stay in alignment.

Self-Care:

Look, you can use all the excuses in the world to not take care of yourself, but at the end of the day the only person you are lying to is yourself! Hate to bring the heavy sh*t here but I have to say this. If you do not fill up your own cup not only will you burn out in your business and have a piss poor mindset. But you can serve anyone around you, you’ll be that debbie downer that no one wants to hang out with.

Sorry Debbie, hate to be the bearer of bad news but no one wants to hang out with you all the time. So it’s time to change this mindset! Give yourself permission to take care of yourself, you are your most valuable tool so why would you neglect it? So knock it off and check out some of my selfcare tips.

  • Give yourself permission! I literally can't say this enough. It’s time to give ourselves permission to take care of ourselves and do things just for us. It’s the only way you will be able to refill your own cup and it’ll make you a better and happier person for it!

  • Spend some money on yourself! Look, it’s time! You work hard for your money and it’s time to spend some of it on yourself. You deserve it and you deserve to get yourself one of those things sitting in your amazon cart (don’t deny it, I know they are there). It’s okay to spoil yourself now and then!

  • Say No! Yes, you read that right! One of my top self-care tips is to just say no. If something isn’t in alignment with a potential client. Save yourself a headache and say no. Client trying to scope creep? Stand up for yourself, dang it and say no! This is one of the most powerful self care things you can do. Protect yourself, your time, and your energy by being able to say no.

Outsourcing:

Let’s face it, even with shifting our mindset, setting boundaries, and giving ourselves permission to reward and value ourselves, marketing can still be a b*tch of a problem. Especially as your business grows and expands, part of the problem may just be plain old lack of time. So when you run into this issue you need to give yourself permission to outsource.

At the end of the day no matter how bada** we are, we’re still just one person with so many hours in the day. And I don’t know about you but I don’t want to spend them all working! (I want to be playing hockey, riding horses, and playing with my kids)

The best way for me to have enough time in the day for the things I want to do is to know when and what to oursource. So if your like me and you hate doing your own marketing (despite all my amazing advice) and are ready to outsource so you have more time to enjoy what you love. Then I think it’s time to think about turning your marketing cheeky!

Hit up the contact page and book your call. It’s time we had a chat!

But be warned! Working with me has been known to cause extreme cheekiness!
